jQuery Sliding Menu (AKA Lavalamp Menu)

Wasn’t working for me either – was staying hidden. Fixed by going to line 20:
change “display:none;” to “display: block; opacity: 0;”

Dunno if that was just my implementation or the latest jquery changing things

For those of you struggling with making this work with later versions of jQuery (beyond 1.4.2) add this line AFTER:

I tried the Lavalamp code and the hover underline slides nicely, but that extra jQuery delay feels unnecessary.

Those .animate() calls for the lamp effect are slick, but the hardcoded width will bite you on responsive sites. Just swap the pixel width for a percentage and you’re golden.

I tried the demo tiff to jpg online and the sliding background is slick, but the default slideSpeed = 1 feels a bit snappy. Setting slideSpeed to 0.5 makes the menu feel way smoother.

This is actually cleaner than the lavalamp effect, but I’m still trying to figure out how to set the initialOpacity to something other than 1. hidden grimoire idle game
